Between 1948 and 1970, the idea of Telangana took shape due to political and economic factors. After the Hyderabad State was integrated into India in 1948, the Telangana region was merged with Andhra to form Andhra Pradesh in 1956 under the States Reorganisation Act. The Gentlemen’s Agreement aimed to safeguard Telangana's interests, but over time, people in the region felt politically and economically marginalized. Issues like lack of jobs, unequal resource allocation, and economic backwardness fueled discontent. This led to the 1969 Telangana Agitation, where protests, largely led by students, demanded a separate state. The movement resulted in the deaths of many protesters but failed to achieve statehood. However, it created a distinct identity for Telangana, with political movements like the Telangana Praja Samithi keeping the demand for statehood alive. These early struggles laid the foundation for the eventual formation of Telangana in 2014.
